What Do You Need To Put On A Gig?

One thing many of us share is a love of going to a good gig. It may be a classical concert, a punk rock show or maybe a stadium-filling 50-year-old crooner, but they are all gigs and there are always people that will be there to enjoy them.
So how hard can it be to put on a gig yourself? It can't be that hard can it? Here are just some of the things you will need to think of, source and plan to make sure your gig goes well.
Bands
Clearly the most important thing when it comes to a gig is the bands. If you already know what sort of show it is you want to put on you should have some idea of the types of bands you want to have playing. It is a good idea to have at least one band who is reasonably popular so that you can be sure of getting a good amount of people coming through the door. After that you should ask bands that play a similar type of music so that the people coming have a good chance of liking all the bands. Also, you should only invite bands that have good reputations for showing up and playing well as any disasters will only look bad on you.
Gear
You have to take responsibility for all the instruments, backline and other stuff that bands need to play a set. Some venues will have a lot of this or you may have to rent it from a local practice studio or gig gear supplier, although most DJs for weddings will have their own stuff. Some touring bands will bring their own gear which can make things easier or more complicated depending on how you look at it, as do many party bands. Try to ensure that you know as far in advance as possible what you have and what you still need to get so that you are not searching for a microphone an hour before the gig.
Venue
If it is a wedding band or wedding DJ you are putting on your venue will be sorted for you, but if you have to find one yourself it is best to get one that suits the genre of music. This way fans will feel comfortable attending. Also try to make sure it is a bit smaller than you think you will need as this will give the gig a more packed, more intimate feeling.
